About the program - Didactics of Teaching The Cycle of the Jewish Year

Studies toward a Specialization Certificate in the Didactics of Teaching The Cycle of the Jewish Year is an online program whose aim is to assist teachers of Judaic Studies in the Diaspora by fostering and improving their teaching skills and methods in the field.

In this study track, we will deal with the Jewish festivals. The courses will focus on the ways and means of teaching these festivals. Emphasis will be put on the pedagogical and didactic questions that derive from the special activity involved in teaching the festivals – an activity that is repeated every year, thus necessitating the contents to be adapted to the chronological and cultural developmental of the learners.

Program objectives:
This course of study seeks to familiarize the student with the challenges involved in teaching The Cycle of the Jewish Year, and to present educational strategies and teaching methods designed to confront these challenges. Emphasis will be placed on the goals, in terms of skills and values, involved in effective teaching, and on creative methods for achieving these goals.

Study Program:
The program includes six subjects. In each subject there are one required course and an elective course. The required courses deal with the didactic problems and techniques involved in teaching different subjects within the fields of Judaic Studies. The elective courses are designed to enrich the student teacher's own appreciation of the subject matter and to address some of the broader meta-issues involved in teaching these subjects. Upon successful completion of eight courses – six required courses plus two electives, for a total of eight credit points (the equivalent of 224 study hours), the student will be entitled to receive a specialization certificate in "The Cycle of the Jewish Year" within the Judaic Studies department from The MOFET Institute's Virtual Academy.
