Reading Comprehension and Listening Comprehension

A basic course in the program: Studies toward a Specialization Certificate in the Didactics of Teaching Hebrew as a Foreign Language

Description:
The course aims to impart principles of reading comprehension and listening comprehension, the ability to teach a lesson in reading comprehension and a lesson in listening comprehension, and experience and practice in both types, using texts that correspond to the teaching at different levels.
The course will be taught in Hebrew.

    • Pre-reading

    • Text sequence

    • Understanding words from context

  2. Correct writing
    • Teaching reading comprehension: lesson structure
    • Opening
    • Words to be acquired and words to be explained
    • Oral practice
    • Written practice
    • Application
    • Building a lesson
    • Writing questions and exercises on the text
    Final assignment for the unit.
  3. Listening comprehension
    • Differences between reading comprehension and listening comprehension
    • Types of listening texts: news, stories, songs
    • Lesson structure
    • Building a lesson
    • Composing texts for purposes of listening
    • Reading the text correctly
    Final assignment for the unit.
  4. From easy to difficult
    • Distinguishing between simple and complex texts according to length and level of Hebrew
    • Correct choice of texts (for reading and listening)
    • Dealing with a text in accordance with the level of the group
    • Dealing with differences in level within the class
    • Practice in preparing lessons in reading comprehension using various texts
    • Practice in preparing lessons in listening comprehension using various texts
